Best Glam Dresses for Your Holiday Party

The holidays are a time to celebrate the past year, the upcoming year, and start off fresh. Whether you’re hosting or attending that holiday party, you have to be well dressed either way. Here are some celebrity inspired looks that will have you looking your best for that fresh start.

Ruffles are an incredibly cute look to wear for a holiday party. They show a little bit of girly-ness, as well as a touch of sophistication. They are super feminine and usually come in a variety of yummy colors. Pair a ruffle dress with a pair of simple nude pumps so you don’t distract from the overall look of the ruffles. H&M and Dorothy Perkins carry some adorable ruffled dresses for under $40.

An Embellished Little Black Dress is something easy to find in pinch, classic, and best of all, great for many different occasions. The master of the embellished Little Black Dress, Heidi Klum, goes all out with the embellishments, so that you don’t even need to worry about finding the right jewelry, or even shoes. All you need with an embellished LBD is a great pair of black pumps, and maybe a black, or sparkly clutch. The beading, fabric design, and other embellishments make this look feel like it is straight from the runway, without much effort besides picking out the dress and trying it on. Pretty much every retailer sells some sort of embellished little black dress, so decide which kind of embellishment you want and start searching.

If you don’t like sequins, but you want to shine in the New Year, a metallic dress is the perfect choice for you. It is still fun and different than something you might wear normally, still elegant enough for the occasion, without being over the top, covered in sequins and sparkles. All you need for this look is some dewy, tanned skin, a sultry eye and lip, and a pair of bright pumps. A metallic dress is subtle and sophisticated glitz. Oasis and H&M sell a couple of metallic styles for under $120.

Velvet is always a good go-to look this time of year. It’s cold outside, and it is a big trend for the holiday season. Velvet can also add a simple and subtle shine to a look without going for the full sequined look, or even if you feel metallics are too much for you as well. It is a gorgeous, luxury fabric, so not only will it keep you warm throughout the night, but you will look extremely sophisticated and elegant wherever you go. Pair the rich fabric with a black blazer, clutch in a bit darker shade than the velvet, and a pair of nude pumps. H&M sells a gorgeous purple velvet dress for a steal at $35.

Wearing a sequined dress on New Year’s Eve may seem a bit cliche, but since sequins have been a big trend for the past year, we’ll let it pass. Every year, sequins and sparkles seem to be the biggest and most widely seen fashion to wear on New Year’s Eve. Whether is it short, long, or just has a hint of sequins, you really cannot go wrong with a sequined dress for your New Year’s gathering.

If you opt for a sequin look, you want to match the color sequin in the dress to your shoes. You can go with a black pump for a black sequin dress like Lauren Conrad did here. If you’re wearing silver or gold, pink, etc., go with the same type of styling. If it’s a multicolor sparkle, you’ll want to go with a nude heel or pick out the color sequin that is most prominent in the dress and wear that color shoe. Like the LBD, most retailers right now sell a version of the sequined dress, so figure out what color and type you want to go with, and then go searching for it.
