The 2016 Fashion Awards – formally known as the British Fashion Awards – in partnership with Swarovski took place on Monday, December 5th, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The awards, originally created to celebrate extraordinary British talent in the industry, expanded to include celebrating the top international names of fashion.
Gigi Hadid, one of the most sought after models in the industry today, was presented the International Model of the Year award by Donatella Versace, beating out Adwoah Aboach, Lineisy Montero, friend Kendall Jenner, and even her sister, Bella Hadid. After accepting the award, the model posed for a photo with Donatella Versace and shared the following thought on Instagram:
“To be voted for this award by the @britishfashioncouncil, to stand in front of an audience full of my greatest inspirations, idols, and friends, and to be presented International Model of the Year by my angel @donatella_versace was one of the most humbling and emotional experiences of my life. To walk into that room and feel so at home is a great blessing and I have & will cherish every friend, memory, lesson and adventure this industry has given me, forever. I can’t wait to continue to grow and create with all of you, and to see what the future holds !! Make a conscious effort every day to be someone people enjoy working with, and your possibilities will surprise you.”
Other spotlight award-winners included Alessandro Michele for Gucci winning the International Accessories Designer award, Simone Rocha taking home the British Womenswear Designer award, and Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga winning the title of International Ready-to-Wear Designer of the Year.
