It comes to no surprise that Marc Jacobs chose Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of rock legends Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, as his latest muse. Known for his edgy aesthetic and history of bold campaigns, Marc Jacobs and Cobain make the perfect pair.
“I don’t model unless I think the project is cool, and I don’t put my name behind something that I don’t genuinely believe in,” Cobain told Vogue. “I thought this collection was great, and I was flattered that Marc thought of me for this. What I said to Marc when I was saying yes was that he’s an underdog for the masses. He’s still very rebellious within the fashion world, and he’s been like that his entire career.”
The celebration of laid-back, ’90s grunge style is one that isn’t set to disappear from the runways any time soon. With this latest spring collection and campaign, Marc Jacobs showcases not only the love for the decade, but also shares a new real-world, attainable image of fashion.“The shoot had a very organic feel,” according to Cobain. “All the makeup was my own. We used the lipstick from right out of my purse, and no one did anything to my hair. They just put me in the clothes.”
Many times seemly thrown together campaigns actually end up way off target. This campaign, however, feels perfectly “Marc” and has us head-over-heels for its display of unique beauty, raw magnetism, and in-your-face power. We can’t wait to see what else Marc Jacobs and Frances Bean Cobain share with us!
Take a look at the first image for the campaign below:
I first met Frances Bean when she was 2 years old at a dinner with her mom (Courtney) and Anna Sui in 1994 at Bar Six in NYC. I have always wanted to work with Frances. Her beauty, uniqueness, and strength is something I have long admired and respected. Few things remain as constant as my continued inspiration from those whose honesty, integrity, courage, and curiosity lead them to explore and venture beyond preconceived boundaries. Photographed by @davidsimsofficial, I am pleased to share the first image of Frances Bean Cobain for our Spring/Summer 2017 campaign.
