The 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards brought another round of surprising victors for this year’s best actors and actresses as they continue down the award season road toward the Oscars. But before you casually dismiss this year’s SAG Awards in eager anticipation of the Academy Awards, we’d like to pause a moment and consider why this award show is worthy of its red carpet moments.
For 23 years, the SAG Awards has recognized and honored outstanding performances in both film and television. Incase you were wondering that means your favorite television stars like “Modern Family’s” Sofia Vergara were side by side with actors and actresses from your favorite movie like “La La Land’s” Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
While the news buzzing around this year’s SAG Award show has been focused on some the award winners’ speeches, we’d like to turn away and focus on some the nominated actresses last night that definitely won in the best dressed category.
And the winners are…
Taraji P. Henson
Taraji P. Henson looked outstanding in this see through Reem Acra gown. The “Hidden Figures” star won big for an Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture in a dress that left little to the imagination.
Though Natalie Portman didn’t score an award for her performance in “Jackie,” the very pregnant Portman definitely scored in her beautiful cream colored Dior gown.
‘La La Land’s’ leading lady took home two prizes, the first an award for having Outstanding Performance as a Female Actor in a Leading Role and the second for her daring Alexander McQueen gown.
Evan Rachel Wood
Evan Rachel Wood wore another Altuzarra suit to the SAG awards, this time it was all blue velvet. Though the “Westworld” actress didn’t win, she definitely won in our best dressed books.
Viola Davis made history on Sunday when she won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for “Fences.” Her win made her the first black woman to win five SAG awards. The award winning actress glowed as she accepted her award in a white Vivienne Westwood gown complete with a Nirav Modi diamond necklace.
