Louis Vuitton Stages Cruise 2018 Show in Kyoto, Japan

Louis Vuitton’s Cruise Show 2018 held at the Miho Museum in Kyoto, Japan, has lived up to all expectations. Since the shows location announcement back in January, the bar has been set high for this latest collection – and we were not disappointed.

Women’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière pulled out all the stops for this latest unveiling. Drawing on the grand landscapes of Japan and its rich culture, there was no shortage of obi fabrics, dramatic makeup, and samurai armor on the runway. The collection featured structured tailoring, square hems, statement shoulder jackets, and smartly styled oversized silhouettes.

“Every cruise collection is a discovery and it’s a game of integrating the culture of the country we are visiting with a point of view that is very French and Parisian,” Ghesquière said, according to WWD. “I’ve been coming to Japan for more than 20 years for personal and for professional reasons and like everyone, I was always amazed by the contrast between how they preserve the heritage and the history and they celebrate it, and at the same time how much the country is looking forward — it’s very technological and modern.”

Bold illustrated graphics and sequined dresses were seen layered over a vast array of metallic, patterned, and brightly colored pants. Busy patterns walked the runway in separates, sharp suiting, and floor length dresses.

The show marks the first cruise collection to be brought to Japan for the fashion house, celebrating Vuitton’s long-lasting relationship with local clients.
