A Parisian Fairytale: Giambattista Valli Haute Couture 13

Amid the soft greenery in the garden of the Petit Palais in Paris, gowns in chiffon and tulle toy with the hopeless romantic in the depths of our hearts. Decorated with crystal and macramé embroideries, sensuously draped, and appearing in various hues of red and pink, the collection was, and remains to be, a walking French Impressionist painting.

Disregarding any misconceptions that come with dubbing something similar to an impressionist painting, the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture 13 (Fall 2017) collection was beautiful from a distance and even more so close-up. Carefully draped dresses flowed through the garden as large tulle gowns spoke to the history of couture in an effortlessly elegant way.

“Nymphs and muses,” the designer said after the show [via WWD]. “The idea is to have this kind of freshness of these innocent girls, but with a slightly perverse touch.”

The collection featured delicate floral motifs, through pattern and appliqué, and highlighted designs with a natural face and strong lip on the models, creating a look both whimsical and powerfully exotic.
