Step Back in Time During the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2017 Show

Taking place at the foot of a giant Eiffel Tower model hovering above a sand and gravel runway, classic tweed, leather accents, and full skirts were some of the most striking looks that made their way down the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2017 runway.

Karl Lagerfeld’s collection recognized the Chanel ateliers and hardworking craftsmen who showed off their skills–feather making, embroidering, and pleat making. These specific accents were incorporated into many of the garments, which was a great way to meld the modern and wartime inspiration together.

British actress, Tilda Swinton described Lagerfeld’s collection as, “It’s doing something that is both ancient and deeply rooted in the traditions of Mademoiselle Chanel,” Swinton told Women’s Wear Daily.

This was most evident in the slim tweed pant and skirt suits–all complete with Chanel canotier hats. Accents of feathers and leather were mixed with the tweed ensembles to add a modern twist while sticking to classic craftsmanship.
