Want the stars’ secrets to getting hot and fabulous for the red carpet? Valerie Waters, celebrity fitness trainer and health guru, has helped A-listers tone up for nearly 20 years. With celebrity clients such as Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel, Waters knows a thing or two about getting that glamorous look in a healthy and easy way. Check out some of her must-know tips from her book Red Carpet Ready to shape up, eat healthy, and have fun at the same time.
We all have busy schedules and sometimes forget that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Valerie recommends always eating within an hour of getting up. This boosts your metabolism and prevents late-night eating. Waters suggests veggie egg-white omelet spinach. Packing the vegetables in it will help you to stay full without extra carbs. For oatmeal, add protein powder and top with raisins and banana. Working out in the morning also helps kick start your day so try to squeeze in a half hour of cardio before work.

Not every workout is going to be fun and enjoyable but you should still make each one count. Valerie suggests strength training your whole body 3 days a week. Focus on the big muscles: legs, chest, back, arms. The other 3 days try interval training to burn the most fat. You can run or do intervals on the bike or the elliptical: 2 minutes hard and then ease up for 2 minutes. On the seventh day, you can rest or do an active rest such as yoga, pilates or hiking.
Valerie lives by this rule. 90 percent of the time fill up on healthy foods such as lean proteins, low-fat dairy, fruits and vegetables, such as Florida grapefruit, spinach and broccoli. A diet with 90 percent of healthy foods leaves room for treats the other 10 percent of the time.
