Richard Chai Love NY Fashion Week Runway Report

Richard Chai debuted his Fall 2012 collection, Richard Chai LOVE and Richard Chai Men’s, yesterday at Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week. New York Girl Style stylish style editors coverage selects the best trends and Chai hit the mark. His collections were subtle yet eye catching, and played with the balance of city stripes and country florals.  Giving these prints a more eye-catching look was Chai’s playfulness of his proportions, mixing tailored and boxy, with gender appeal, creating a tactful mix of masculinity and femininity.

Inspired by Valentine’s Day?  The LOVE line consisted of half red floral prints contrasted on a black backdrop and classic wide stripes in gray, black and navy blue. Floral dominated skirts, dresses and blazers, which were longer and fashionably draped over models’ shoulders.

Other pieces in the collection had a more masculine appeal. To accentuate masculinity Chai’s creations were boxy, loose fitting and paired with wool trousers. While many coats were oversized and squared, some played with femininity and were more body hugging, with belted trenches in tweed. Corduroy pants were paired with shapely blouses, mostly in white and black. Accessorizing this masculine sophistication were extra large duffel bags in gray with black leather trim.

Chai’s 2012 runway collection proved to be innovative and playful. Contrasting femininity and masculinity with stripes and florals was absolutely genius and left runway onlookers mesmerized.
