Recently thrust into the spotlight by her outstanding portrayal of character Lisbeth Salander in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie, we are used to associating Rooney Mara’s petite frame and pixie haircut with a tough don’t-mess-with-me mystique. Yet, when it comes to Hollywood events, lately Mara has been embracing her sophisticated femininity.
At the Costume Designers’ Guild Awards, which took place on February 21st, Mara graced the event with a beautiful dress by J Mendel. The deep, rich plum color of the dress compliments Mara’s flawless skin making her glow. The richness of the color gives Mara an air of regalness. The plunging neckline brings an element of sexuality and adultness to balance out the shorter playful skirt. The pleated skirt and plunging neckline together help to create an hourglass figure emphasizing her tiny waist.
Mara chooses not to overpower the dress with accessories. She stays simple with nude t-strap pumps and natural make-up; adding lip color a just a breath of a shade lighter than her dress. Completing the look Mara elegantly slicks back her dark hair, leaving her eyebrows tinted a lighter shade to open up her face and bring out her eyes. I love Mara in this look because it is feminine yet powerful, staying true to her person while allowing her to venture to her sleek sophisticated side.
